The Purpose of Poetry

This old man grazed thirty head of cattle
In a valley just north of the covered bridge
On the Mississinewa, where the reservoir
Stands today. Had a black border collie
And a half-breed sheep dog with one eye.
The dogs took the cows to pasture each morning
And brought them home again at night
And herded them into the barn. The old man
Would slip a wooden bar across both doors.
One dog slept on the front porch, one on the back.

He was waiting there one evening
Listening to the animals coming home
When a man from the courthouse stopped
To tell him how the new reservoir
Was going to flood all his property.
They both knew he was too far up in years
To farm anywhere else. He had a daughter
Who lived in Florida, in a trailer park.
He should sell now and go stay with her.
The man helped bar the doors before he left.

He had only known dirt under his fingernails
And trips to town on Saturday mornings
Since he was a boy. Always he had been around
Cattle, and trees, and land near the river.
Evenings by the barn he could hear the dogs
Talking to each other as they brought in
The herd; and the cows answering them.
It was the clearest thing he knew. That night
He shot both dogs and then himself.
The purpose of poetry is to tell us about life.

Response: I think this poem was about life. This poor man have a wonderful life, then the government had to come and ruin his life. They took his house away! This happens to people everyday, you never know, you could be next! I agree with the author. Poetry is mainly about life. How would you feel if the government came to your house and told you it was your last day to life in it? You would be pretty sad! Now, its not the best solution to kill yourself, but do whatever you please, i guess.

    This book is called Theodore Boone. The accused. The author of this book is John Grisham. This is an interesting book, keep reading to see what happens.

Well, Theodore Boone was an average teenager, with one exception. Is parents and him were lawyers! Pete Duffy, accused of murder, was supposed to be in court that morning, but he never showed up. The same time that was happening Theodore’s locker kept getting vandalized. Theodore and his parents were working hard to try to find Pete, but it just wasn’t happening! A Couple days later when they were trying to figure things out, a rock came flying through their window. What do you think that meant?

     Well, my favorite part of the book was when the rock got throne though the window.  “Theo, what in the world!” “Someone threw a rock.”  :What’s going on back there!” Those are just a few of my favorite lines for the book. The reason that was my favorite part was because it made me jump, and wonder who threw it.

    So watch out for Theodore’s creeper read this book to see what happened to him!

     Life is hard the way it is, and it would be even harder if my hearing went away. Hearing is something I have to have. I use it every single second of the day , every day. I can hear my friends, family.I can hear them sing if its my birthday, or if they are complementing me. I can hear if there is any danger coming near.

    If it got taken away, you would be trying to talk to me and id be staring are you like we were having a staring contest. Trying to understand, but not being able to. The pain being to odd one out. I would not know any new secrets would not be able to go and hear a concert,and if I were in danger I would not hear to alarm so that I could escape. I could die with out it. Life cant be without it.

The music just wants to come out
but it just can’t
Because my mind is filled with doubt

Because if my voice makes a squeak
My family will get disappointed
and I will start to shrink

I get it perfect at home
But when I’m on stage
I feel like I am trapped inside a huge scary dome

I want to run  off stage
but if I do
My bravery will still be caught inside its cold,
Dark
Cage

I hear the music starting
and there is no turning back now
I open up my mouth to sing
and I WOW the crowd!

One day my grandmaw and I went Christmas shopping and i did not know what to get her, so I asked her what she wanted.  She said “ I would like a candle”. I went ahead and bought her a candle and went ahead with the rest of my shopping. When we got home I started to wrap all of my presents.  I got done wrapping all my presents and gave my grandmaw hers, but she said “ I’ll unwrap it on Christmas when we are together.” The little kids were coming over so I hid the candle in the snowman by the TV. I showed her were I hid it and she said she would remember were I hid it. Christmas was over and I was helping with putting the Christmas decorations up and she still hadn’t opened the candle, I told her and i brought it to her, but she told me to put it back and that she would get it later. A couple days have gone by and i went back to her house and she said she couldn’t find it in the SANTA CLAUSE!! I told her it was in SNOWMAN!! By then it was already up in the attic and it was to late. I guess we will have to get it next year. The good thing is that I don’t have to buy her a gift next year.

After a long day of driving around
We started home on a peaceful night
I head a whoosh of air
and a tweet of a lovely bird
I had started to doze
then all of a sudden
I heard a ZOOM, CRASH, ZING
We looked behind us and saw two HUGE
red and white pick-ups racing with speed!
I felt my heart drop
they went into different lanes
POP!
we were in the middle of a drag race
I closed our eyes and yelled
be for we knew it, it was over!
that was the fear of my day
then we got home safely
and shouted
HOORAY!

I was at VBS and they were giving away the big prizes.  The pastor called my brothers and my name to get to free tickets to splash kingdom!  We had to save up some money and wait for the tickets to come in.

About a month later we saved up just the right amount of money got the tickets and off we went to Splash Kingdom! We got there and I was jumping around in my car I was so excited!  I went on every single ride but one, The Extreme.  It was almost time to go so i finally got brave enough and rode The Extreme.  When ever you got on The Extreme you get an extreme wedgie!!
